Best Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System for 9k GVWR Travel Trailer

Published 08/09/2023

Question:

I found an Equalizer e4 rated 12-14k locally for sale thats rated for 12k-14k lbs. My travel trailer is 7600 dry 9000 gross and my tongue weight is just under 800. Would this work for my travel trailer or would I greatly sacrifice ride quality? Would it still work as advertised for sway and weight distribution.

The tongue weight range for the # EQ37140ET is 1,000-1,400 lbs and I'm assuming this is the system you're referring to. We recommend measuring your loaded tongue weight of your setup to see if it will fall in that range. Even with 800 lbs as your dry tongue weight, the system may be overrated. The sway control would work, but an overrated system could cause a rough ride and bouncy trailer. If you measure and find that it does fall into that range then you are good to go.

I also see you looked at the replacement spring bars. Unfortunately, Equal-i-zer heads wouldn't allow you to buy that system and swap out the bars so it is properly rated. With the information you gave me the best choice would likely be the # EQ37120ET which has a tongue weight range of 800-1,200 lbs. This would keep your tongue weight in range when empty and fully loaded so the system can work as intended.
