Troubleshooting Towed Vehicle Battery that was Drained After Being Left Connected to RV

Question:

I am towing a Lincoln 2022 Nautilus with a Roadmaster tow package. With the car still connected to my rv in tow mode I parked for the night and had to toggle the power on to lock the doors and left battery on. When I came back in the morning the battery was dead. Should I have left the battery kill switch on? Why could this happen?

Expert Reply:

Battery should have been left disconnected or at least disconnected from the RV. When the RV isn't towing something there's a chance it's battery would have a lower charge and since batteries seek to equalize voltage when connected it's possible the RV battery drained the tow vehicle battery.
