Before you decide if you want a brake controller or not you should check with your local laws and regulations to determine what towing setups are required to have trailer brakes activated by a brake controller. Some states require trailer brakes and a brake controller on any vehicle that is towing a trailer.
It may not seem like your trailer would weigh much, but in an emergency situation where you need to stop abruptly inches do matter. Not trying to sound too dramatic, but it is the truth. We recommend that at the very least if the trailer weighs over 50 percent of the weight of the tow vehicle than a brake controller should be used.
Does your trailer have electric brakes? If not, they will be needed in order to use a brake controller. I attached an FAQ article on installing trailer brakes on a trailer that does not have brakes.
To install a brake controller like the P2 Brake Controller part # 90885 in your 2007 Chevy Silverado you would need a Tekonsha Plug-In Adapter part # 3015-P. The # 90885 that I referenced is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to set up and install.
I attached an install video for these products for you to check out also.
