Part C31054 why wont this fit the toyota 4runner trail. Is it a mater of cutting the plastic under bumper

Because of the slightly different design of the Trail Edition of the 2010 to 2013 Toyota 4Runner, it requires its own front mount trailer hitch. For your Trail Edition you can use hitch # 31367. This hitch fits several vehicles, including yours, and I have included a link to its instructions and a video showing an installation.
