Question:
I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD with a factory 7-way female trailer connector. I am considering a DEMCO DM66VR kit to charge a 1993 Toyota Camry I will be towing cross country on a U-Haul tow dolly. I do not want to splice into factory wires and or use the wire tapping connector supplied with the kit. Instead, I would purchase a Pollak PK12706 connector and connect the DM66VR red wire to the connector. My question is which pin/blade on my trailer connection should I match the DEMCO red wire to?

Expert Reply:
The 12v pin on the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector item # PK12706 is what you are going to want to connect the Battery Charge Wire Kit item # DM66VR to. You are also going to need to add a ground wire. You will want to use a 12 gauge wire like item # 12-2-1. You can ground it to your battery or another suitable location nearby.
I have linked a diagram below that will show you what positions to connect these wires on the 7-way connector. This is the standard way of wiring up a 7-way so it should be in the same position as your truck if the connector came from the factory. If yours is an aftermarket one there's no guarantee that the pins are all wired the same. If this is the case you will want to use a tester like item # PTW2992 and find the 12v pin and ground.
