Is RoadActive Suspension Standard 2mm Setting Equivalent to HD 1mm Setting for 2021 Silverado 1500

Published 04/21/2023

Question:

I have a 2021 Silverado 4WD crew cab RST 6.2L. Towed a 6x18 enclosed trailer last weekend with two quads and gear inside, a 545lb ATV in the truck bed and 4 guys in the cab 750 lb total. Truck cargo capacity is 1719lbs. Also used an Andersen WDH. Truck sagged 3 1/4inch with this setup. I think Id prefer the plushness of the standard RAS vs. the HD RAS as I really only tow this much once or twice a year. However, am I still better off with the HD version and just run it at low tension 1mm most of year and then crank it up to 2mm spring gap for the once or twice per year trips? Other option Im thinking is to run standard RAS closer to 2mm tension all the time to avoid adjusting it back and forth. Lastly, would the standard RAS set at 2mm gap provide about the same plushness and rear ride height unloaded as the HD RAS at 1mm?

Based on everything you have told me, you will be better off with the RoadActive Suspension HD # RAS54FR. You're already contemplating running the standard # RAS4611 at 2mm all the time. It also sounds like you're willing to adjust it for these trips where you're fully loaded, and you're definitely experiencing a lot of sag with all of that weight.

Running the HD at 1mm will in fact be comparable to the 2mm setting on the standard. By choosing the HD you will have a lot of additional versatility. You can run the HD at the 1mm setting for everyday use and then adjust it when you're going to tow or haul those really heavy loads. It also has additional adjustability beyond the standard, and can go up to either 2mm or 3mm. 3mm will probably be best if you have the passengers, ATV, and trailer at the same time.
