How to Prevent Leaf Springs from Wearing Out on Grand Design with 7K Axles

Updated 04/03/2023 | Published 03/31/2023

Question:

I have a 2021 Grand Design Momentum 320 G fifth wheel toyhauler. I have already had to replace all of the leaf springs once on the stock Dexter 7000lb axles. I added a set of Sumo boosters to the new replacement springs but it is my belief that this is a band aid fix at best. I am considering using the Roadmaster kit that is designed for the 8000lb axles so as to prevent the ever present sag problems that I am experiencing with the stock springs. I am also wanting to lift the trailer approximately 2-3” so that it sits more level with my 4 wheel drive truck. Is there any reason why I shouldn’t do this?

It's possible that the leaf springs from the factory are underrated. It's also possible that you may be adding more weight to the trailer than you think. That said, either way it would not do any harm to replace the springs with a higher rated set, the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit part # RM-2470-2580 if you have the budget is really the best trailer suspension option out there, better than cushioned equalizers or anything else really. This system will not only provide you with more support but it also does an excellent job of helping smooth out the ride. Please note, you may also need longer u-bolts for this install so I do also recommend picking up the U-Bolt Set part # 175666.

Unfortunately, the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit does not provide a lift.
