Question:
How do I step down my wire from the start battery to the 8 gauge input wire on the BCDC1250D? I will probably run 4 gauge because of the length.

According to the manufacturer, you'll need to use soldered butt splice crimp connections (see photo below) when attaching wires on the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger part # 331-BCDC1250D which is does come with. These can accommodate different size wires but you may need to purchase other sizes for your specific application.
