Troubleshooting Grinding Kwikee Single Step that Still Functions

Question:

I have Kwikee steps LC301702. This is a single step. I had an issue with the motor and replaced it last year. However, now I have a new problem that started just recently. When the steps extend or come in, they make a grinding noise for 3 to 4 seconds. The steps work fine, no issues. Ive done some research and it seems to be totally hit or miss- sometime, replacing this helps, other times, people have replaced many things and still had issues. I dont want to get caught up in part swapping without an educated guess as to why. What would be your thought as to a fix?

First thing I would check it to make sure the linkage is tight that goes from the gear to the step. If that's not it it's most likely the gear itself which you should be able to see underneath the step and get an idea if the teeth or worn. The replacement for that would be the part # LC301696. Hopefully just a linkage adjustment is all that's needed as that would be pretty simple!
