Is A Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Adapter Module Needed For A 2020 GMC Sierra 1500

Question:

I have a GMC 2020 1500 Sierra that has a built in brake control and 7-pin connector. I have a tandem axle boat trailer with hydraulic surge drum brakes. Im interested in upgrading to the Hydrastar system. Im confused about the 7-pin harness that comes with item #HS481-8065 because it has the male and female adapters already attached. I like the idea of the plug and play set up. Should I consider the Hydrastar #HS381-9065 instead? This combo does not include the CAM. Do I need the CAM in my application?

We have found that trucks that integrated trailer brake controllers can be very temperamental when used with electric over hydraulic brakes. With that being said I recommend the Hydrastar Vented Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Drum Brakes # HS481-8065 that has the CAM already included. The CAM will prevent an issue from the start or developing over time because vehicles can now receive over the air updates that cold cause issues. The 7-way plug that is included will contain plug and play components including the adapter module, which will provide you with an easy/quick install.
