Question:
I understand that a factory tow package installation in a 2016 Jeep Cherokee latitude gives the vehicle a 4500 lb tow capacity. But what would a class III tow hitch, allow the vehicle to tow? The Curt C13172 tow hitch I am considering installing . Thank you.

Even though the Curt Hitch # C13172 is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds since your vehicle is rated for 4,500 pounds that is the max you can tow. You're only as strong as your weakest component. The Curt trailer hitch has a bolt on installation and has a gloss black powder coat finish that will offer you superior rust resistance. I like this hitch because it is manufactured in The USA.
To tow a trailer you will also need a trailer wiring harness. If your vehicle already has the factory connector like you say you will need the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket # HM40975 and the Curt Towing Starter Kit # C45554.
I linked an installation video below on the Curt hitch being installed onto your exact vehicle. If you have any further questions please feel free to reach back out to me anytime and I would be more than happy to further assist you in your future towing endeavors.
