Weight Distribution Hitch for 2020 Honda Passport Towing 3,500 lb Trailer

Question:
Hi. I have a 2020 Honda passport AWD with a dealer installed towing package rated for 5000 pounds and 500 tongue weight. I was told since the passport is a unibody construction I may not be able to use a weight distribution hitch with it. The vehicle manual has no information about weight distribution hitches. The travel trailer I want to pull is 3500 pounds with a 350 pound tongue weight. Would you recommend a weight distribution hitch for this vehicle and trailer combination? Or just a friction sway control?

I always refer to the owner's manual when it comes to safety issues with vehicles and according to my research the online manual for your 2020 Honda Passport says you shouldn't need one but if you want to use one then it needs to be setup properly. As long as the hitch you're installed on your Passport is rated for a weight distribution hitch (WDH) then you should be just fine to use one.
For your application I recommend using the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BLU36FR because it is simple and effective, comes with a 2" hitch ball, and has a tongue weight range of 200 lbs - 600 lbs which should be perfect for your setup. Be sure when you load your trailer to that 3,500 lbs that you shoot for a tongue weight that's 10-15% of that weight for the safest towing performance. Using a portable tongue weight scale like our part # e99044 helps to ensure you load your trailer properly every time.
