Should Slipper Springs Be Longer than Hanger Bolt When Weight of Trailer is On Suspension

Published 12/29/2022

Question:

Good Afternoon, we are currently changing out our axels and leafsprings out on our boat trailer and are wondering if they’re too long or overloaded or if that is the way they are suppose to look? Thank yall.

What you have is a normal looking slipper spring setup. It's not out of the ordinary to have the hook end to be a little past the bolt when there's a load on it. This gives the suspension the ability to move up as well as down which helps it work better.
