Question:

I have 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude. I do not believe it has the factor tow package, but I do see the grey 4 pin connector for brake controller above the emergency brake. Should the jeep have the trailer lights and brakes wiring ran to the back if it has this 4 pin connector? I checked to see if the plug was tucked above the rear number but I did not see it.

The first thing you need would be a 4-way installed on your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee which for that the Tekonsha kit part # 118727 is the easiest to install and has the most reliable converter box. Since you said you need brakes too you'll have to install a brake controller like our very popular and reliable Prodigy P2 part # 90885. To install this the kit you'd want is the # ETBC7 which comes with everything needed to convert the 4-way to a 7-way and wire in a brake controller.

The P2 uses an inertia sensor to determine how hard you are applying the vehicle brakes and apply a similar amount of braking pressure on the trailer brakes.

That we are aware of that plug isn't active but you can test it with a circuit tester like part # PTW2992. One of the pins should be hot all the time and another should have voltage only when brake pedal is applied. If this is the case you'd be able to use the plug for powering a brake controller but would need to run 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 back to the 7-way as that circuit isn't present at rear of vehicle.
