How To Replace Hinge on Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box

Question:

The rear hinge on my Thule Motion XT XL roof box has busted. I cannot even close the box in order to drive the car. How do I get the hinge off so I can close the box and get it home where I can work on replacing it? I saw that you answered a similar question elsewhere and that été is supposed to be a video, but I do not see a video anywhere at the link provided. Thanks!

In order to replace the hinge on a Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box like part # TH629806 you'll need to obtain the Replacement Lid Lifter Hinge for Thule Motion XT Cargo Boxes part # 1401495200. This lid lifter/hinge works on either the front or rear. Unfortunately, Thule does not offer repair instructions for their replacement parts. That said, this hinge is pretty easy to install as there are no fasteners. It just simply pops on and off using a ball and socket mechanism. If you can't get the old hinge off by hand, you can just use a pair pliers to pull it off. If you can't get the new hinge on by hand, just use some sort of press like a c-clamp.
