How long are the arms? What is the arm length from the center pole out, lets assume the first bike station is unusable to me.

The distance is 26 inches for the arms from the center pole out of the Road Runner bike rack, which is the following part number:
- Hollywood Racks Road Runner 5-Bike Rack # HR520
The only other thing to keep in mind is that with a hanging bike rack, if one of the bikes you want to carry has a step-through frame, or you want to carry a children's bike, you'll need to give those bikes a horizontal mounting point with Bike Frame Adapter Bar # HRBA-PRO.
