Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2004 Jeep Liberty
Published 11/25/2013 >
Question:
I need to wire an 04 jeep liberty for a small jet ski type trailer. What is the difference between part 118524 and C55382? Is it necessary to run a wire to the battery in order for the trailer lights to work properly?

The difference between the Curt Wiring Harness # C55382 and the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118524 is basically just the brand. Both of these products will install the same and will perform the same functions.
I usually recommend the Curt harnesses because they use a newer style of circuitry that has proven to be more reliable.
Also, you will need to run the power wire to the battery otherwise the harness would not work. The reason for the power wire is to prevent overdrawing the delicate tail light wiring harness of your vehicle. This is accomplished by only using the tail light circuits as signal wires and then using the power from the battery to power the tail lights. I attached an FAQ on routing the power wire for you to check out also.
