Question:
You just plug it into the 7 pin connector and then plug your trailer into it. Seem super easy, found out about it to day at dinner. I have 2 concerns, one is the lack of dash button to manually put the brakes in the event of an emergency. Curt sells a button, but that relies on the app running on your phone and a reliable Bluetooth signal. The second concern is that it seems to matter how you hook it up. If you plug the Curt into the trailer and then onto the tow vehicle the brakes lock up. The owner said this happened once. Aside from ease of install, this doesnt like a good idea. Am I over reacting?

The Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 will plug directly into your 7 way connector on your 2021 Subaru Ascent.
The Manual Override Button # C83HR will let you activate your trailer brakes without using your smartphone is case of an emergency. If you're using your phones Bluetooth and lose connection while driving the controller will stay at its current state until you get back into an area that has service.
If your Curt Echo locks up your trailer brakes then you will need to completely unplug the Echo from both the trailer and the truck, delete the app from your phone, and then reinstall the app back onto the phone. Finally you will have to plug the Echo back into the vehicle's 7 way by itself until the Echo has a solid blue light. This will completely reset your settings and you can re-pair your Echo.
