Question:
I have new AM30820 tires on my boat trailer. 10foot row boat and trailer are aluminum and extremely light. the tire side wall says: Maximum load: 1,045 lbs at 80 psi Does this mean I have to keep them inflated to 80PSI? This seems extreme. And when do I measure the pressure? over night the air temp here is 85F and when driving to the lake it is 110F or more. Wont that heat increase the tire pressure?

Expert Reply:
The Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10066 that is on the Wheel and Tire Combo # AM30820 will need 80psi of pressure when the tire is cold. It is best to verify the pressure in the coldest temperature it will operate before driving. The manufacturer accounts for the tire warming up with higher temperature and when the tire gets warmer from the friction of driving. With having such a light trailer and boat you can have them weighed with all your gear to ensure you are using the correct load rated tire for your trailer. While the Kenda # AM10066 is rated for up to 1,045lbs(load range C) per tire they also have the Kenda # AM10064 that is rated for 840lbs(load range B) and only requires 55psi. You do not want to deviate from the manufacture pressure ratings as this could lead to issues with the tire that are not covered by manufacturer warranty.
