Should Tandem Axle Trailer with 3,500 lb Axles have Brakes on Both Axles

Question:

Hello I’m currently building a trailer with 2 3500 axles and I was wanting to know if I need brakes on both axles or just the front one?

It's up to you if you prefer having brakes on both axles or just one. Both setups are pretty common but obviously having brakes on both would give you the best stopping ability.

For your tandem axle utility trailer, the 3,500 lb axles make it easy to add electric brakes. For 3,500 lb axles you will use 10 inch assemblies. My recommendation is the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA for each axle. These assemblies will work well for your axles and are self adjusting. If you don't already have the hub/drum assemblies, then I recommend using the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3.5K E-Z Lube Axles - 10" Diameter - 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K.
