What is Purpose of Small Cone in Base of Curt Crosswing Fifth Wheel Hitch

Question:

The picture is the curt crosswing hitch the top adjustable head that accepts the wedge. At the bottom you see a silver cone in color cut out that the bottom of the wedge apparently fits into. What is that cone and is that going to be a high wear item? I am interested in the hitch but that concerns me.

Expert Reply:

The cone that you see in the picture you attached of the Curt Crosswing part # C86JR is there to help align it with the rest of the hitch when you back the vehicle up into it and lower it down with the jacks. This ensures it is completely seated and prevents any movement and also is not a wear point. This hitch has a lifetime warranty as well so you would not have to worry about it wearing out.
