Question:

Would this rack be suitable for carrying a couple of dirt bikes. The weight would be somewhere around 400 pounds.

As far as weight capacity goes the 24x84 etrailer Cargo Carrier for RV Bumper # e96ZR has a 500 lb weight capacity so it can handle the bikes, but the thing you're going to have to check is the weight capacity of your bumper as it will likely be less than that. This carrier weighs in at 82 lbs and mounts directly to the bumper so you'll have to subtract the 82 lbs from the weight rating of your bumper so get an accurate rating.

When it comes to securing your dirt bikes that is another matter entirely and since our carrier is designed around cargo like generators and such you'll need to find a way to secure your bikes with straps, otherwise your next best option is a trailer with some chocks like the Tow-Rax # TWSPWC.
