Question:
I see a lot of questions and answers on flat towing the Ford Edge but none mention AWD. We have a 2014 Edge Sport V6 AWD. Can we flat tow it and what is needed? Other posts I read said you couldnt flat tow an AWD but I have seen some being towed. Thank you

Yes. According to the owners manual of the 2014 Ford Edge, you can flat tow your 2014 Ford Edge with all 4 wheels on the ground. In order to flat tow your Ford Edge you will need 5 main parts. Those parts being a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, tow bar wiring and a supplemental braking system. I have included these parts below, along with a brief description of their purpose.
Base Plate Kit: This is a custom fit part for your 2014 Ford Edge and provides the attachment points for the tow bar to tow your Edge.
- Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX2628
Tow Bar: This is what comes from the motorhome and attaches to the base plate kit.
- Blue Ox Alpha 2 Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7380
This tow bar is compatible with the above mentioned base plate kit and includes safety cables, so you will not need to purchase them separately.
Tow Bar Wiring: Connects your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your towed car to provide signals when flat towing.
- Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit # RM-152-1676-7
Supplemental Braking System: This is what will allow you to safely travel with and stop your Edge when flat towing.
- Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency, Portable Braking System # BLU37TR
You may also need a high-low adapter to keep your tow set-up level. I have included a help article that goes over how to determine this. I have also linked our selection of high-low adapters so you can choose the correct one, if one is needed.
You will also want to check your owners manual for your 2014 Ford Edge to ensure you are doing everything that is required/recommended for flat towing.
