Question:
I am interested in the Inno roof rack package for a 2018 Mazda. CX-5 bare roof with plastic strips covering “gutter”. When using the INK497 feet, does the plastic strip need to be removed? Seems it leave a lot of exposed gutter—ugly and ? leak points!

You will not remove the plastic strips on your 2018 Mazda CX-5 when you install a roof rack that is compatible with your vehicle. Aesthetics aside, none of the roof racks I have installed on the naked roofs of my personal vehicles have ever leaked. I do like the Inno option:
Inno Aero Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 42" Long and 45" Long - Qty 2, part # INXB108-115
Inno Flush Feet for Aero Crossbars - Naked Roofs - Qty 4, part # INXS200
Custom Fit Kit for Inno XS200, XS250, and INSUT Roof Rack Feet, part # INK497.
This rack has a maximum weight capacity of 120 lbs. It also has elliptical shaped crossbars to help reduce noise and help with fuel efficiency. It can also be secured to the roof of your vehicle.
If I were picking a roof rack, my recommendation is the Yakima option. I am partial to the Yakima roof rack, especially in naked roof applications, because they have two adjustments other roof rack manufacturers do not have, pitch and toe. These two measurements, in my opinion, make Yakima's naked roof rack applications more secure than their competitors. It will consist of the following:
Yakima CoreBar Crossbars - Steel - Black - 50" Long - Qty 2, part # Y00421
BaseLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars - Naked Roofs - Qty 4, part # Y28TR
BaseClip Fit Kit for Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack Towers - Qty 2, part # Y06130
BaseClip Fit Kit for Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack Towers - Qty 2, part # Y06154
Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Cores (QTY 4), part # Y07204
This roof rack has a maximum weight capacity of 165 lbs. . This rack also has elliptical shaped crossbars to help reduce noise and help with fuel efficiency. The locks have been added to secure the rack to your vehicle.
I have included product description links, a video of the Yakima rack being installed on a 2018 Mazda CX-5, and a video of the Inno rack being installed on a 2020 Mazda CX-5 below.
