For a great flat-tow system for your 2010 Ford Escape FWD and 2021 Ford Explorer, you need a base plate, a tow bar, safety cables, a tow braking system, and vehicle tow wiring. While we do have great setups, we do not carry any Curt-brand flat-tow components. Here's a setup of the following parts you need:
In order to flat-tow your 2010 Ford Escape FWD, I recommend the following setup:
- Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # DM9518219
- Demco Commander II Non-Binding Tow Bar - Victory Series # DM9511012 (already comes with safety cables)
- Brake Buddy Classic 3 # HM39494
- Roadmaster 4-Diode Wiring Kit # RM-152-98146-7
he great thing about the Demco base plate kit is that is simply installs into your Escape's chassis. It comes with all required hardware. As far as the Commander II tow bar, it allows for you to easily release your vehicle even in uneven ground and simply slides into the RV's hitch receiver without the need of a ball mount. It also doesn't require an adapter to connect with the base plate. You also receive the proportional action of the Brake Buddy Classic 3 which applies the Escape's brakes at the same level that you apply the brakes to your RV. With the diode kit, this will allow you to connect your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your Edge's lighting system.
To transport your 2021 Ford Explorer FWD, I confirmed with your owner's manual that you cannot flat-tow front-wheel drive 2021 Explorers with all four wheels on the ground. This is because doing so can severely damage the transition or drivetrain. A great alternative to safely transport your Explorer is by tow dolly. For that route, I recommend the Demco Car Kaddy X # DM9713093. This dolly already comes with a surge coupler and disc brakes, so there is no need to worry about purchasing a brake controller.
Even though you can flat-tow your Ford Escape, you can also decide to use the Car Kaddy X to transport that vehicle as well.
