Middle Strap Location for Saris Bones Trunk Mount Rack on 2018 Nissan Leaf

Question:

I’m having a hard time figuring out the placement of the Saris Bones on my Nissan Leaf. The side straps don’t fit as pictured in instructions. Is my setup as pictured adequate?

Thanks for the information and photos of the Saris Bones 2 Bike Rack # SA805BL on your 2018 Nissan Leaf!

The guide Saris has for installing that rack on your vehicle is to place the lower feet into the license plate well as opposed to on the bumper like what you have. Typically when we see this type of note it's because the bumper isn't strong enough to hold the weight of the rack and bikes.

As far as the middle straps go, it's usually best to try to get them as horizontal as you can to help limit the side to side movement of the rack but there are times when the hooks simply won't fit certain parts of the hatch and it sounds like that's what you're experiencing. As long as you've got them secured and as horizontal as you can then you'll be good to go with those straps.
