skid plate around gas tank is blocking installation on 03 jeep grand cherkoee ladero. Do I have to remove skid plate,modify it and reinstall?

According to the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13051 instructions you may or may not need to use the spacers, but the skid shield does not need to be removed or modified.
