Troubleshooting Advent Air RV Air Conditioner Freezing Up
Updated 06/17/2022 | Published 06/16/2022 >
Question:
I’m having a problem with the Advent 13500 AC unit I bought from you last year. When the temps get above 100 degrees, the compressor fails. The fan continues to blow but no cooling. I had an AC guy look at it yesterday and he checked the temp sensor on top of the compressor and it was fine and he checked the capacitor and it too was fine. Are you seeing this issue with others of this unit? Can you help me find the problem?

Yes, you have the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner w/ Air Distribution Box, Start Capacitor, and Heat Strip, # ACM150CH. This is not an issue that we get often but it does sometimes occur with most any unit, when this happens it is frequently due to air flow. First check the direction of the vents and how the air is being directed. If causing the cooled air to recirculate directly opposed to turning over the air in the RV, this can cause a freeze up situation. Pull the roof top cowling on your unit and ensure there is not standing water, it needs to be evaporating or drained from the roof. Make sure the vents are free of debris. The inside discharge vents as well as those on the coil.
