Question:

I have a trailer with leaf-spring suspension. I want to add brakes, but I dont know how best to route the wires from the chassis to the axle. It seems like leaving a length of wire unsupported would invite failure, but attaching it to the flexing spring could cause wear. Do you have any better suggestion?

There are many things to consider when adding electric drum brakes to a trailer. I have included a link to our FAQ article that covers everything you will need. As far as routing the wires, first, you can attach the ground wires for the magnets nearby to the frame leaving enough slack for the travel of the suspension.

For the power wire you would come off the magnet and run the wire to the front of the trailer along the frame. You can use a combination of wire loom # 7509-1 and loom clamps, # A0250, to protect and support the wires.
