If your Ranger was originally equipped with the factory 7-way, we have a plug and play option available as part # 74682 which would plug into the connector behind the rear bumper.
If it wasn't equipped with the factory 7-way, you'll first need a functional 4-pole connector. If yours is damaged, you can replace it using # HM40655 which is a plug and play install. To convert that to a 7-way, you'd simply use a 4 pole to 7-way adapter like part # 37185. If the trailer you'll be towing doesn't have electric brakes, you'll just ground the white wire on the adapter to the truck frame and plug the adapter into the functioning 4-pole. The remaining wires can be bundled up out of the way.
If the trailer does have electric brakes, you'll need a brake controller to actuate them. I'd recommend the Curt Triflex, part # C24VV as a relatively inexpensive, well preforming option. You'll also need our # ETBC7 brake controller install kit that includes the adapter I mentioned above, as well as all the wire, circuit breakers and hardware to complete the install.
I've linked to a video showing how the # ETBC7 kit is used.
