Question:
This car is only rated for 1500 pounds why do you recommend a 2inch hitch? Hah hah, bigger is better. Seems like a waste to me. Educate me, thanks.

This is a great question. There are two main reasons people prefer the 2 inch trailer hitch size over the smaller 1-1/4 inch. One being the higher capacities like you mentioned but the other is that since this is the most popular hitch size there are more accessories made for it like bike racks, ball mounts, and cargo carriers. So you have more options. That's why we offer 2 inch hitches for your 2017 Toyota RAV4 like the # e98864 you referenced or the more hidden # 306-X7219 which only has the hitch opening that hangs below the bumper. This is also why this is the most popular hitch size for your vehicle.
