Replacement Spindle for 3,500 lb Trailer Axle with 2-3/8 inch Diameter
Published 04/21/2022 >
Question:
I have a Dexter idler axle. It is 2 3/8 inch diameter. It has the arch/bow to compensate for load. Spindle is shot and needs replacing. Since there is no brake can I remove the existing spindle and brake plate and use a #84 replacement spindle? The 2 inch #84 could fit inside the 2 3/8 axle and be welded in the proper position/length. If this would work how to you measure the arched beam axle to square the flange to flange measurement? Thanks,

Expert Reply:
Since you have a 2-3/8 inch diameter axle and that indicates you have a 3,500 lb axle the 84 spindle like the part # TRU24FR will work great as that is what capacity this axle was designed for. Installing spindles is a precision job that should only be done by a welder with the needed jigs to get the spindle completely square to the axle.
