Preventing U-Bolt Nut Flange Overlap with Install of Curt Hitch on Honda HR-V

Question:
I have not tightened down the side flange nuts yet…need to get a torque wrench to finish that… but the flange nuts attaching the u bolt are overlapping as I put them on to hold the hitch in place. Seee attached pic…zoom in for better clarity. I have not used a socket on any flange nuts yet. Will this correct itself as I tighten the outside bolts?

When we installed the Curt hitch part # C11416 on a similar HR-V as your model we found that the trick to getting the U-bolt nuts installed properly was to tighten them down evenly so that the nuts wouldn't overlap. We have torque wrenches available too like with the part # ALL944001 as well.
