Question:
I am considering adding a hitch to my Q3 Audi. I already have a hitch carrier and the adapter would be needed. Your information states that the tongue weight will be cut in half. What does that mean? Does it mean that the carrier and contents will be limited to 300 pounds or 150 pounds?

Expert Reply:
If you use a hitch adapter to change hitch size from 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch the result is that the hitch loses 50 percent of it's tongue weight capacity due to added leverage and movement. Instead the better option would be to go with a 2 inch hitch that fits your 2018 Audi Q3 like the part # C13238 which would not require an adapter.
