Compatability of Curt Carrier C18100 and Curt Hitch #13060 on a 2012 Subaru Tribeca
Updated 08/07/2013 | Published 08/06/2013 >
Question:
Do you know if the C18100, when folded, will hit the back of a 2012 Subaru Tribeca using a Curt #13609 hitch? I cant tell from the dimensions listed for both the hitch and the cargo carrier on your website. I havent ordered the hitch yet I want to order both at the same time so I cant measure the distance from the hitch pin to the back bumper.

The Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, part # C13069, is a good fit for your Subaru Tribeca. This hitch comes complete with hardware and requires no welding to install. I measured the distance from the mounting flange to the center of the hitch pin hole and it measures approximately 3-7/8 inches.
The 19x60 Curt Cargo Carrier, part # C18100 may be a fit for the hitch depending on the clearance. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the front edge of the carrier when folded up is 5 inches. It features a mesh floor which makes it easier to clean, and has pre drilled holes along the siderails which is convenient for tie-downs. I have linked you to a product review video for this Curt Carrier.
In order to determine if this is going to work for your Tribeca, you will need to measure the distance from the foreward edge of the bumper beam, where the hitch is mounted, to the back of your bumper.
To do this hold a straight edge horizontally against the back edge of your bumper, making sure it extends below the bottom edge of the bumper. Then measure from the bumper beam the hitch mounts to rearward to the straight edge. If you measure at least 8-7/8 inches from the mounting point (the 3-7/8 inches plus 5 inches needed for the carrier), you would have the necessary clearance.
If you find that you do not have enough clearance with the Curt carrier, I would recommend the 20x48 Pro Series Cargo Carrier, part # 6502. This carrier has a load capacity of 500 lbs, has a mesh floor for easy cleaning, and when folded, measures 7-1/2 inches from the hitch pin hole to the carrier. I have linked you to a product review video for this carrier.
