What Ladder Rack, Tonneau Cover, and Kayak Carrier do You Recommend for My 2017 Ford F-150?

Updated 02/15/2022 | Published 02/14/2022

Question:

Okay, thank you for letting me know. I think I will definitely look into the Yakima Overhaul system. One thing I saw online was that when track mounted, it looses weight capacity, is this true? Originally I liked it as it had 500lb Hwy and 300 Off road, but am I right that when track mounted on the RetraxOne it drops to 300lb Hwy and 180 off? I plan to carry a 130lb Kayak and occasionally one for my wife around 50lb. That puts me pretty close to the 180 off road (though I am always on road).

If you are looking to use the Yakima OverHaul HD # Y01151-58 and adapter kit # Y01155 with the RetraxONE XR # RTT-60373 on your 2017 Ford F-150 supercrew with a 5.7 ft bed, the OverHaul provides you with 300 pounds of on-road weight capacity and 180 pounds of off-road weight capacity when mounted on the tonneau rails. You will be able load kayaks up to those weight capacities.

For a great kayak carrier that is compatible with the OverHaul HD, I recommend the Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carrier - Fixed - Universal Mount # S510 along with the adapter # KC-FK8 for the large crossbars. The carrier comes with a 99-pound weight capacity and comes with all straps required to carry a single kayak. If you plan to carry 2 kayaks, you will need to purchase an additional carrier and adapter kit.

Thank you so much! Are there other Truck Racks that are compatible with the RetraxOne? (Thule, Rac Track...etc)

Not a problem! As far as other racks that are compatible with the RetraxONE XR # RTT-60373, the only other option is the Rhino-Rack crossbar system that come with feet that are customized to fit into the slots of the cover. That is the Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbar System for Retrax XR Series and Mountain Top EVO-M Tonneau Covers # RRVA180B-RRRLT600 (71 inches long) or # RRVA165B-RRRLT600 (65 inches long). It is important to note that with this super low-profile setup, you will not have the ability to extend the front of your kayaks over the cab of the truck. With that being said, I recommend going with the OverHaul HD # Y01151-58 and adapter kit # Y01155.

Thanks so much for following up. Yes, you are correct. I confirmed with my tech at Yakima that the OverHaul HD will drop in weight capacity to 300 pounds (on-road) and 180 pounds (off-road) when mounted on the Retrax rail system. However, with your 50-pound and 130-pound kayaks, you should be fine as long as you don't put extra cargo in the kayaks when traveling.
