According to the manual if the trailer you're towing with your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is over 1,000 lbs Jeep recommends using a brake controller, but if the trailer is over 2,000 lbs then it is required. So if your trailer is light then you'll be good, but if it's heavier you need to use a brake controller.
If you don't already have a brake controller I highly recommend the Curt Echo # C51180 because it's a wireless controller so you adjust settings via an app on your phone which saves you leg space inside your Grand Cherokee L. You just need to make sure the 7-Way on your tow package has the 12V power pin active for this to work.
