Question:
I have 44 inches from the very front of the axel on 2018 GMC 4 wheel drive 4 door pickup with a 61/2 foot bed. I am considering a sliding 5th wheel hitch. how many inches in front of the axel should the king pin be? also your opinion of this hitch and are there better alternatives?

It sounds like you might just be looking for a fifth wheel hitch for your 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 with 6-1/2' bed and if that's the case then we do have some great options but you will need a sliding hitch for cab clearance. The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # BWRVK3270 is what I recommend which will require the B&W Custom Installation Kit part # BWRVK2503. In general, the install kit will place the king pin over the rear axle as much as possible but some move it slightly forward or rearward.
