Compatibility of Curt Echo and 2-5/16 Inch Ball With Stealth Hitches Hidden Hitch on 2017 Audi Q7

Updated 01/20/2022 | Published 01/19/2022

Question:

I have two questions about the Stealth Hitch for my 2017 Audi Q7. First, can I mount a 2-5/16inch ball? Second, can I use a Curt Echo with this? The 7-blade prong looks like its mounted down, so Im worried about it coming out or something.

Yes, you can use a 2-5/16" ball like the # C40007 with the Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 391AUDQ716T. The only requirement for it to fit this ball mount is a 1" diameter shank. Regarding the Curt Echo # C51180, I do not think this will work.

You are correct, the 7-way connection for the # 391AUDQ716T faces the ground. The Echo does have a strap to keep it secure, but assuming it didn't fall out you would have the brake controller hanging down along with the 7-way plugged in from your trailer. This would leave little clearance and may even cause your wire to drag on the ground. Realistically it wouldn't be long before you lost or damaged your brake controller and wiring.

If you like the idea of controlling your brake controller with your phone, the Curt Echo Under-Dash Trailer Brake Controller # C27JR would be a good alternative. This brake controller mounts out of site in your vehicle and is controlled with the same app the # C51180 uses. You would also need the # C51515 for installation. If you would like to have a manual override button that isn't on your phone, the # C83HR is also available.

Your other option would be to install a hitch like the etrailer # e88KR instead. This does not have a completely hidden design but does have a concealed cross tube so only the receiver would be visible at the back. You would also need to add a 4-way using either the # 119250KIT which clamps on to your existing wiring. Then you would need to install the # ETBC7L which will provide you with a 7-way that can power the Curt Echo # C51180. You would also need to purchase a separate ball mount like the #989900.

I have attached some review and installation videos for your reference.
