Will Trunk Mount Bike Rack Damage Spoiler on 2021 Volvo XC90

Hi - We recently changed vehicles and our current rack is not approved for the XC90 so we found this one. But...our old rack had a high vertical bar for the top straps...so that the top rear door mounted straps holding a lot of weight would not crush the flimsy louver. This rack shows pictures where the straps are right on the louver...potentially getting crushed and potentially destroying the paint. Am I panicking over a non-issue? Thanks!

Definitely justifiable reasoning on your end, and one of the reasons why people like to use a hitch mounted bike rack - because it doesn't make any contact with their vehicle and there isn't the potential for the straps to cause wear and tear on the spoiler.
With that being said, trunk mount racks are still a viable option and really as long as you don't keep the Yakima HangOut 2 Bike Rack # Y02637 constantly installed on your 2021 Volvo XC90 and you don't overload the bike rack you should be just fine.
If you'd rather go with a hitch mounted option to avoid the bike rack touching your vehicle then I recommend installing the Curt Hitch # C13233 and then using a bike rack like the RockyMounts WestSlope # RKY10222 or the Kuat Beta # B202-2.
