When To Make Alignment Marks During Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs Installation

Question:
At what point in install should alignment marks be made? After setting saddle and lower brackets on axle and against spring pack and aligning bottom airbag mounting hole? Also, why in step 5 do instructions refer to saddle bracket as “bottom of lower bracket” and the lower bracket as “upper bracket?” A little confusing on first read.

The alignment marks are made in the first step within step 5, see the diagram below showing this. It states, "make alignment marks as shown." The reason the lower bracket and saddle bracket are called the upper and lower bracket in these steps is based on their positioning in step 5. The Lower bracket is on top, and the Saddle Bracket is on the bottom.
