Question:
Is there a difference in hitches for a 22 Silverado 8 foot box vs 6.9
asked by: Bill F
Expert Reply:
Yes, there is a difference in hitches for an 8' bed on your 2022 Chevrolet Silverado like the B&W Companion # BWRVK3710, which is a fixed hitch. Fixed hitches are used primarily on long bed trucks, and sliding hitches like the Demco Hijacker # DM8550034 are used short bed trucks. The reason being is because, due to the shorter bed length, the hitch is installed closer to the cab, reducing the turning radius significantly, whereas, the long bed trucks install the hitch farther from the cab, eliminating the need for more clearance when making tight turns.
You can use a fixed hitch on a short bed truck, however you'll need to use a Reese Sidewinder #RP34FR, which is a rotating pin-box that will rotate 90° for tight turns.
