Question:
I searched for the 4023 and found it in several places. That said I can get that fit kit from another source and get the right bars from you. Reading further some reviews on your site and others it seems the bars come in various sizes ! Question : do they need to be cut or sawed off or is there play in the mount ? Next question is finish ? My X1 is mineral grey (nice color) so idk what would be better black or aluminum finish .

I have a great flush crossbar system for you. Unfortunately, I confirmed with Thule that they discontinued the Fit Kit 4023 which is required to mount the AeroBlades TH7602B-TH7603B to your 2018 BMW X1. Without that fit kit, there is no way to attach the AeroBlades to your flush rails. We also do not have any other Thule systems that do not extend past the feet that fit your flush rails.
With that being said, the only other option for a crossbar system for your X1 that does not extend past the feet includes the following parts:
- Inno Aero Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 39" Long and 42" # INXB100-108
- Inno Flush Feet for Aero Crossbars - Flush Side Rails # INXS400
- Custom Fit Kit for Inno XS300, XS350, XS400, XS450, INTR, and INXR Roof Rack Feet # INTR141
Since this system uses the Inno Flush Feet, the crossbars do not extend past the feet. This provides you with a more factory look. In addition, it is low-profile and sits only about 3 inches above your roof. With this system, you have a 140 pound weight capacity for rooftop cargo. I recommend confirming with your BMW owner's manual to make sure your roof can accommodate that much weight.
As far as a rooftop cargo carrier that can carry skis or an uninflated inflatable kayak, I recommend the Thule Pulse # TH615. The Pulse is a great choice that fits skis up to 181cm long. Also, with internal dimensions of 72" long x 31" wide x 14-1/2" tall, you will have plenty of space for an uninflated kayak.
For a great roof-mounted bike rack that will fit around the Inno crossbars, I recommend the Swagman Race Ready Roof Bike Rack - Wheel Mount # S64705. Since the Race Ready comes with a wheel-mount style, you do not have to deal with the frustration that often comes with a fork-mounted roof bike rack. The race ready is also compatible with fat bikes up to 5 inches wide.
