There are a few things that you need to flat tow your 2021 Chevrolet Equinox. You need a base plate, tow bar, supplemental braking system, wiring kit, and safety cables, then you will have flat towing setup for your vehicle.
The base plate that I recommend is the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms, part # RM-523193-5. It is a direct connect towbar, so you will not need a quick-disconnect crossbar, and it is almost invisible when not in use.
This base plate pairs well with the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 8K, part # RM-576. It is a non-binding tow bar that is constructed from a lightweight aluminum. It also comes with cable guides to keep the safety chains and wiring from getting tangled.
The supplemental brake system I recommend is the Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System - Proportional, part # HM39524. This system can give you proportional braking or you can use the manual mode and take full control of your trailer's braking.
You will need some wiring in order for this setup to work for your vehicle. The Roadmaster Universal Wiring Kit with Smart Diodes for Variable Voltage Incandescent Tail Lights, part # RO94FR, the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles, part # RM-156-25, and the Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors, 2 oz., part # 11755, are all necessary to flat tow your vehicle. The Smart Diodes wiring kit will help your flat towed vehicles lights mirror your RV's lights, while ensuring you do not have any issues with the varying voltages in your lights. The battery charge line kit will keep your towed vehicle's battery charged during the flat tow and the dielectric grease will help keep corrosion out of your wiring.
Lastly, the safety chain I recommend is the Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables - 10,000 lbs - Qty 2, part # BX88197, are the coiled Blue Ox cables. The have snap hooks at both ends for a more secure connection.
I have included product description links, video installation links, and video review links below.
