Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Circuit with Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Harness # 8010
Updated 11/15/2021 | Published 11/13/2021 >
Question:
I have run this tester on my dual axle trailer and all circuits show ok with exception of brake - that just stays with red light on constant. Manual shows faults codes with different lights on for brake circuit issues but not a fault for just brake light being solid red? I am having issue with brakes not activating with my 2013 GMC Yukon with factory brake control.

The brake circuit you see on the Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester part # 8010 is actually for the trailer brakes and not the brake light circuit. So if you are seeing a fault on the brake circuit of your trailer it has to do with the brakes of the trailer.
Since you are having issues with your Yukon's integrated controller and the tester is showing an error on this circuit I would anticipate your issue is the brake circuit of your trailer. This could be as simple as dirt or corrosion on the pins of the trailer connector which you could use sandpaper to clean off or it could be damage on the wiring between the connector and the assemblies which you could clean up to fix as well.
