The K-Source Custom Snap-On Towing Mirrors, part # KS80900, will fit the standard factory side-view mirrors on the 2011 GMC Sierra (but will not fit the OEM extendable mirrors).
The factory mirrors were available with a chrome-finish cap on the top half of the mirror housing. As long as the chrome caps were part of the original factory-installed mirrors on your 2011 GMC Sierra and not an aftermarket accessory item these K-Source snap-on mirrors will fit.
The K-Source snap-on mirrors use tabs around their outside perimeter to grab the edges of your Sierra mirrors; this is where the holding force is applied to keep them in place. It is recommended that you carefully clean the outside of the OEM mirrors and wipe clean the inside of the K-Source mirrors prior to installation. This will help to minimize the potential for dirt trapped between the surfaces from causing abrasion to the chrome mirror cover.
As long as the chrome surface of the OEM mirror is kept completely free of dirt and grit there should be no damage to its finish. If you wish, for an extra measure of protection you can apply a layer of paper painting tape (which has an easy-release adhesive) to the chrome surface after thoroughly cleaning it and before installing the K-Source mirrors. My contact at K-Source confirmed this is a simple and effective fix for concerns like yours.
