What size cotter pin do you need for a 16-ft trailer?

The hitch pin you need is going to depend on which size receiver you have on your hitch. More than likely you have a 2" receiver, which means you want a 5/8" diameter hitch pin like the Curt Pin and Clip for 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches - 5/8" Diameter x 3-3/16" Span # C21510. Just to be clear, the cotter pin is the smaller pin that comes with the hitch pin in order to secure it.
If you're looking for a ball mount and have a 2" receiver, I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit - 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop - 7,500 lbs # 989899. This comes with two ball mounts, a 2" and 1-7/8" ball, and a hitch pin and clip for the 2" receiver as well.
If you aren't sure which size receiver you have you will want to measure the opening on your receiver. I have attached a helpful article showing the different receiver sizes and where to measure. I have also included a link for all of our hitch pins and clips which will let you choose the correct hitch pin based on the which receiver size it fits.
