Does Curt Class I Ball Mount # C45024 Have a Solid or Hallow Shank
Updated 05/20/2013 | Published 05/17/2013 >
Question:
Is the Curt class 1 C45024 drawbar with the 5inch rise made from a solid steel shank or is it a hollow bar. When I click on the search tab for solid shank draw bars, the Curt C45024 is not listed. Having a solid steel shank bar is important to me. Some of your draw bar descriptions say solid shank, and some dont. At nearly 7 pounds shipping weight, I am guessing it is solid shank. But need to know for sure before placing my order.

Expert Reply:
Class I and II 1-1/4 in hitch accessories are almost exclusively solid-shanked across the board. That would include ball mounts like # C45024. Just to be sure, I did contact Curt and they verified that ball mount # C45024 does have a solid shank.
For Class I and II trailer hitches you need to use the ball mount specified by the trailer hitch manufacturer in order to not void the warranty. Or you can ask the hitch manufacturer if this ball mount is acceptable and will not void the warranty. Class I and II hitches are tested with a particular ball mount and are given their ratings based on that testing.
