Question:

Added larger tires and have a much smaller gap between tire and fender. Leaf springs are under the axle. Could a 2” block be added between the axle and leaf spring to lift my trailer. Would that get more clearance on my fender?

Expert Reply:

We do not recommend using spacer blocks to lift a trailer because this can cause a bouncing, more difficult to control trailer as well as suspension issues due to the added instability that blocks create. Instead, to lift your trailer to add more clearance between your trailer tire and fender, I recommend using an over/under kit (keep in mind these work for double-eye springs only).

These kits move your trailer's leaf springs to the top of your axle and lifts your trailer approximately the same amount as your axle's diameter plus the height of the leaf spring pack. The correct kit will depend on the diameter of your axle, either 2-3/8" (which are typically 3,000 lb axles) or 3" (which are typically 5,200 lb to 7,000 lb axles):
