Question:
Can I mount a Malone j cradle all the way to the end of the cross bar of the Malone AirFlow 2? As in outside the spot the cross bar mounts to the other vehicle rails?

Expert Reply:
If you are trying to mount the Malone FoldAway-J Kayak Carrier # MAL98FR or the Malone J-Pro2 Kayak Carrier # MPG117MD past the feet of the Malone AirFlow 2 - 50" # MPG215, you will need at least about 4 inches of crossbar space after the feet in order to accommodate the bottom bracket of the carriers. Since the FoltAway and the J-Pro2 attach using those tightening brackets, they need access under the crossbars. The AirFlow 2 feet will interfere with those attachments if there is not enough space after the feet to accommodate it.
One way you can tell if you have at least 4 inches of space after the feet is if you measure the distance between the left mounting point and the right mounting point on your vehicle's roof. If the measurement of that distance is less than 46 inches, you will have enough room to mount the carriers on your crossbars. This will be OK to do.
It is important to note that the safest way to transport kayaks on carriers mounted past the feet of the AirFlow 2 is to counter-balance the weight with accessories distributed evenly across the crossbars.
